Drums

Drums are the primary instrument in Asmat. No feast takes place without drumming. The drums take months to make and are covered with lizard skin which is attached with human blood mixed with lime used as a glue and held in place with a rattan ring. The drum is tuned by warming the head near the fire. Small knobs of beeswax are used to minimize unwanted vibrations.
